School bus in-service

We found no state-level recurring in-service mandate for school bus drivers. Districts and employers may still require training. No statewide recurring in-service hour mandate was found. School bus driver qualification runs through WisDOT's 'S' endorsement (Wis. Stat. § 343.12, with background-check disqualifications and medical/non-medical standards in Wis. Admin. Code ch. Trans 112), renewed with the license. WisDOT's own school bus education page states that continuing-education programs are run voluntarily by bus companies, school districts, and the Wisconsin School Bus Association; DPI's PI 21 covers pupil driver education, not bus drivers. CDL & endorsements

CDL renewal cycle: every 8 years.

No general recurring continuing-education requirement for CDL holders beyond the 8-year renewal.

Hazmat: Wisconsin is one of the states where hazmat endorsement fingerprinting/application is handled through the state DMV rather than a TSA enrollment center; the TSA security threat assessment remains on the federal 5-year cycle.
