School bus in-service

REQUIRED 10 hours annual (10 CE credits/year; 50 credits per 5-year CDL cycle)

Citation: Utah Admin. Code R277-601 (incorporating the Standards for Utah School Buses and Operations)

The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) runs a continuing-education recertification program: 50 approved CE credits (10 per year; max 1 credit per course hour, so effectively ~10 hours/year) verified by the LEA supervisor and submitted to USBE on the School Bus Driver Recertification Form at each 5-year CDL renewal. On top of the credit system, LEAs must deliver specific recurring topics: annual bloodborne pathogens, 60-minute drug/alcohol awareness (with test), and road performance evaluations; semi-annual evacuation drills; biennial defensive driving, first aid, and child sexual abuse/human trafficking prevention.
