Tennessee
School bus in-service
REQUIRED 4 hours annual
Citation: Tenn. Comp. R. & Regs. 1340-03-03-.07
The Pupil Transportation Section of the Tennessee Highway Patrol (Dept. of Safety & Homeland Security) delivers a mandatory 4-hour driver safety training each year. Rule 1340-03-03-.07 requires every CDL holder with the school bus (S) endorsement to attend and satisfactorily complete all state-sponsored training annually; failure triggers downgrade of the S endorsement on the first day of the month after the driver's training month.
CDL & endorsements
CDL renewal cycle: every 8 years.
No general CDL continuing-education requirement; CDLs renew every 8 years, in person, with current medical certification on file.
Hazmat: Hazmat endorsement must be renewed every 5 years via a TSA fingerprint-based security threat assessment even though the underlying license is on an 8-year cycle.
