School bus in-service

SDCL 13-29-21 requires each school bus driver to receive 'appropriate training at least once every five years' — classroom instruction in first aid, bus safety, and passenger management plus behind-the-wheel training; the driver pays any training fees. The SD Department of Education administers the program in cooperation with the SD Highway Patrol and the Driver Licensing Office. The statute sets no hour count and no annual in-service mandate was found.

No general CDL continuing-education requirement; CDLs renew every 5 years in person with a vision test only.
