School bus in-service

REQUIRED 8 hours annual average over the certification period

Administered by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). The school bus driver certificate expires 2 years from the physical-exam date (1 year for drivers 55+ or with diabetes). Renewal requires ODE-approved training averaging at least eight hours annually while certified during the preceding four-year period, including a Core or Core Refresher course taught by a certified instructor within the last four years; initial certification requires a minimum 15 hours behind-the-wheel (4 with qualifying experience) and an ODE-certified-trainer road test.

CDL & endorsements

CDL renewal cycle: every 8 years.

No general CDL continuing education beyond renewal paperwork. Oregon CDL runs on the state's 8-year license cycle (per secondary sources; the official ODOT renewal page does not state the term).

Hazmat: At CDL renewal, hazmat endorsement holders must pay the testing fee, pass the hazmat knowledge test again, and have passed a TSA security background check within the past 4 years 9 months (per Oregon DMV).
