School bus in-service
REQUIRED 4 hours annual
Citation: Okla. Admin. Code § 210:30-5-8
Administered by the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE). Initial certification requires an OSDE-approved school bus driver training course, a CDL with proper endorsements, driving-record check, and physician-signed health/vision certificate. The standard school bus driver certificate is valid five years; renewal requires four (4) hours per year of OSDE-approved in-service training over the five-year period.
CDL & endorsements
CDL renewal cycle: every 4 years.
No general CDL continuing education beyond renewal paperwork. Standard CDL term is 4 years, with an 8-year renewal option available through Service Oklahoma.
Hazmat: Standard federal process: TSA Security Threat Assessment on the usual ~5-year cycle plus hazmat knowledge test; no Oklahoma-specific hazmat renewal quirks surfaced in research.
