School bus in-service

REQUIRED 8 hours annual

Citation: Mo. Rev. Stat. § 162.065; 5 CSR 30-261.010

Employer-run: each school district must annually provide training of at least 8 hours with special instruction in school bus driving to every school bus driver it employs or contracts, including coaches, teachers, and substitute drivers holding the S endorsement. DESE oversees compliance via 5 CSR 30-261.010; districts must also keep a medical examiner's statement renewed biennially. No statewide exam is attached to the annual training.

CDL & endorsements

CDL renewal cycle: every 6 years.

No general continuing education for ordinary CDL holders. Missouri licenses for ages 21-69 are issued on a 6-year cycle; DOR does not list a separate CDL period, but school-bus-endorsed drivers age 75+ get licenses capped at 2 years.

Hazmat: Standard federal process: TSA Security Threat Assessment (fingerprint-based) on a 5-year cycle via TSA enrollment centers; no separate Missouri-run fingerprint program identified.
