School bus in-service

REQUIRED per 3 years (accident prevention course recertification)

Citation: Kan. Admin. Regs. § 91-38-6

Administered by the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE). Initial requirement is at least 12 hours of bus driver training (first 6 hours without student passengers) plus an approved accident prevention course; drivers must maintain certification by completing an accident prevention course at least every 3 years (K.A.R. 91-38-6(e)(2)). The recurring requirement is course-based, not stated as an annual hour count; first aid/CPR training is required within 30 days of employment.

CDL renewal cycle: every 5 years.

No general CDL continuing education beyond renewal paperwork; federal ELDT applies for new S/P endorsements. CDLs renew on a 5-year cycle (K.S.A. 8-2,135, for CDLs issued/renewed on or after July 1, 2018) versus 6 years for regular Kansas licenses.
