School bus in-service
REQUIRED annual
Citation: Ind. Code § 20-27-8-9 (annual safety meeting); Ind. Code §§ 20-27-8-10, 20-27-8-15
Every Indiana school bus driver (public or nonpublic school) must attend an annual safety meeting or workshop; the statute caps it at 2 days per calendar year but sets no hour count. Meetings are run by the State School Bus Committee with the Indiana State Police, with registration supervised by the Secretary of Education (IDOE Office of School Transportation). The driver's training certificate is renewed each calendar year by completing the annual safety meeting; missing three consecutive years forces full re-certification, including the preservice course (max 40 hours) required of new drivers under IC 20-27-8-10.
CDL & endorsements

- Special purpose bus drivers are covered by a separate IDOE safety plan (IC 20-27-8-10.5)
