School bus in-service
REQUIRED 10 hours per fiscal school year

Administered by the Idaho State Department of Education (Student Transportation section); SISBO is adopted by the State Board of Education. Experienced drivers must complete at least 10 hours of refresher training each fiscal school year: at least 3 hours of pre-service training before school begins in the fall plus at least three in-service sessions during the year in documented, topic-specific blocks of at least 30 minutes. New drivers complete an approved training program with documented knowledge and skills tests, behind-the-wheel/route-observation hours, and an emergency evacuation practical before driving students.
CDL & endorsements
CDL renewal cycle: every 4 years.
No general CDL continuing education beyond the standard 4-year renewal.
Hazmat: Federal TSA security threat assessment every 5 years; hazmat knowledge retest applies at CDL renewal per federal rule.
- Annual driving-record (MVR) check for every school bus driver each fiscal year (SISBO personnel-file requirements)
- Annual driver and route evaluations documented in the driver's file
