O.C.G.A. § 20-2-1125 mandates annual training on traffic laws and school bus operations/safety for all public-school bus drivers — no one may drive unless trained within the preceding 12 months — and State Board of Education rule 160-5-3-.08(f)(3) requires attendance at the annual in-service training and safety programs provided by the Georgia DOE. Initial certification is a GaDOE-approved program of at least 24 hours (r. 160-5-3-.08(f)(1)); neither the statute nor the rule specifies an hour count for the annual in-service, so sb_hours is null.

CDL & endorsements

CDL renewal cycle: every 8 years.

No general CDL continuing-education requirement; Georgia Class A/B/C CDLs are valid 8 years through DDS.

Hazmat: H/X-endorsed CDLs are valid only 5 years and expire with the TSA Security Threat Assessment clearance; renewal must be coordinated with the TSA fingerprint-based background check.
