School bus in-service

REQUIRED 8 hours annual

Citation: Fla. Admin. Code R. 6A-3.0141

State Board of Education rule 6A-3.0141 (Employment of School Bus Operators), enforced by school districts, requires each school bus operator to complete a minimum of eight hours of in-service training related to transporting students at least annually; required certified CPR and first aid training hours may count toward the eight. After a break in service of up to twelve continuous months, the operator must complete eight hours of in-service training before again driving with students.

CDL & endorsements

CDL renewal cycle: every 8 years.

No general CDL continuing-education requirement; Florida CDLs are valid 8 years (6 years at age 80+).

Hazmat: Florida issues hazmat-endorsed CDLs valid only 4 years (shorter than the 5-year TSA cycle); FLHSMV recommends starting renewal at least 30 days early because of the TSA background check, and hazmat renewal can begin up to 1 year before expiration.
