School bus in-service

REQUIRED 4 hours annual (fiscal year, July 1 - June 30)

Citation: 14 Del. Admin. Code § 1150-7.5

Delaware Department of Education regulation 1150 (School Transportation) requires school bus drivers to complete an annual district- or charter-school-provided in-service program of at least four hours each fiscal year, covering Delaware school bus regulations, safe operation, behavioral management, and emergency situational training; drivers completing it receive a state stipend subject to funding (§ 1150-7.5.1). Initial qualification requires DDOE school bus theory training (valid one year) plus behind-the-wheel training (§ 1150-7.2).

CDL & endorsements

CDL renewal cycle: every 8 years.

No general CDL continuing-education requirement; Delaware CDLs renew every 8 years through the DE DMV.

Hazmat: Hazmat-endorsed CDLs are issued for only 5 years (vs. the 8-year base license), tied to the TSA Security Threat Assessment fingerprint cycle.
