School bus in-service

We are still researching this jurisdiction. No codified recurring in-service hour requirement was found. DC is unusual: the state education agency itself (OSSE Division of Student Transportation) directly employs the school bus drivers, primarily for special-education transport; drivers need a CDL with P and S endorsements, a DOT medical card, and CPR/First Aid, and OSSE runs basic and in-service training as internal employer policy (OSSE DOT Policies and Procedures Manual §600), without a published hour mandate. Searched DCMR Title 5 (incl. 5-A Ch. 30 special education), OSSE publications, and DCPS contractor requirements; found training obligations in vendor contracts but no generally applicable regulation.

CDL & endorsements

CDL renewal cycle: every 8 years.

No general recurring continuing-education requirement for CDL holders; DC DMV CDLs are valid 8 years.

Hazmat: Standard federal cycle: TSA security threat assessment every 5 years for the hazmat endorsement; no DC-specific quirk identified in this research.
